As Architects, it was our intention to create a house befitting the prized location which affords long views across the Cheshire plain and to create a statement building set amongst the existing mature landscape. The bold approach, whilst driven by the desire to create contemporary spaces and individual architecture, takes reference from the best examples of local vernacular architecture, the character of steeply pitched roofs, low eaves, slender windows and traditional materials.
Our intention was to create the most elegant and romantic building of unique appearance, rejecting the current fashion for replacement dwellings to be simply historical copies of houses of previous eras. The result is a building of its time, designed specifically to respond to the site and its wider context of the village, making best use of modern building technologies seamlessly woven into the architectural language of Prestbury’s finer buildings, representing a true departure from the established approach to replacement dwellings.
