The Opening of the Leeds City Museum Discovery Centre completed the first stage of a £26m museum scheme for Leeds. The new Discovery Centre provides access to the fascinating and diverse collections held by Leeds Museums and Galleries, bringing museum objects hidden away since the 1940’s back on public display.
The Centre is located in a striking, state of the art new building. It houses artefacts from fields including the natural sciences, archaeology, social history, and anthropology. A range of control mechanisms are provided by the building in accordance with BS5454 to ensure that museum artefacts can be stored and cared for effectively, with special measures including temperature and light controls, as well as protection from insects, pollution and humidity.
