Travis St Substation

Travis St Substation Travis St Substation Travis St Substation Travis St Substation
A utilitarian building in a prominent but underused site next to the train station is enclosed in a corten steel skin to provide a sculptural element as part of a pedestrian route to a new hotel and residential accommodation. LED lights will be cut into the steel sheet to allow a lighting sequence to be generated at night.

Sculptural, elegant and sophosticated. Puts most other buildings (let alone sub-stations) to shame. Truly a piece of art…

A truely beautiful form! Its composition, form and material choice shows the skill and sensitivity of the architect and makes sense of an otherwise under valued area of the city.

Yeah if only all utility buildings were as interesting and responsive to their surroundings!

Haha well everyone is entitled to their own opinion but Im really pleased with how its worked out and its definatly better than the standard united utilities concrete box sub station.
